Role Overview:

The Director of Merchandising is responsible for creating a merchandise assortment that meets or exceeds sales volume and customer expectations for both domestic and international accounts while appropriately representing the vision of the brand. This role proactively manages the merchandising process from developing seasonal line plans through final product execution and the consumer on-floor experience. The role supports multi-channel assortment strategy, in collaboration with design, production, planning, channel leadership and using analytics and insights. This individual is responsible for responding to customer feedback, market trends, and developing action plans that drive growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and collaborates with team of Associate/Assistant Merchants to create and implement seasonal line plan, ensuring properly balanced style/SKU breakdown (fits, silhouettes, fabric, color, price, margin) to achieve seasonal product strategies and meet financial objectives.
  • Gathers and analyzes sell through hind sighting from global partners to identify growth opportunities and strategically inform development brief.
  • Partners with Product Business Leaders to develop quarterly product strategies to drive annual revenue plans for Women’s Denim and Ready to wear.
  • Manage general execution of said quarterly strategies by working closely with cross-functional partners on deliverables.
  • Owns Global Product Calendar
  • Monitors and manages execution of the go-to market calendar to meet timelines and respond to current business demands.
  • Determines wholesale and retail price points that maintain competitive pricing and product quality while achieving target margin.
  • Partners with Design to build balanced Denim, Ready-to-Wear based on empirical data and sales analyses, as well as trend and brand awareness.
  • Identifies key items and growth opportunities by category and style for Marketing partners.
  • Edits line with Design and Sales to build a balanced Brand appropriate assortment covering global market needs while managing product lifecycles and profitability.
  • Monitors omni-style selling on a weekly basis to respond to emerging trends or react to additional sales opportunities on existing products.
  • Acts as a key communicator between Sales, Design, Marketing, Planning, Product Development and Production to ensure cohesive processes and shared accountability for execution across the 6 P’s consumer experience (Product, Place, Price, Promotion, Planning, Profitability).
  • Conducts presentations to educate Sales and customers on vision for season, key style inspirations, product features and benefits, etc. in partnership with Design/Sales team.
  • Regularly assess the competition against trends, marketing and product strategy; react accordingly to ensure market leadership and present findings cross-functionally on a monthly basis
  • Develop and manage creation of exclusives for specific accounts that are brand-appropriate to drive incremental volume.
  • Review seasonal liability and craft plan of use.
  • Point person for all third party collaborations with regards to product communication.
  • Delegates workflow as appropriate to associate and assistant merchants. Monitors and reviews their progress.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to foster a supportive, productive, highly collaborative team environment.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of Merchandising and Sales experience within the wholesale Apparel industry.
  • Working knowledge of end to end product lifecycle process.
  • Ability to make confident and independent recommendations and take accountability for managing and achieving business goals.
  • Proven talent management, coaching and development skillset.
  • Confident personality with the ability to motivate and command respect across all levels of the business.
  • Creative thinker and business driver.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to travel as required.
