About Pepper

Pepper is the system for food distributors' critical business operations, serving the $1T industry we all rely on to feed us every day. Our customers are the family-owned, regional, and specialty wholesalers supplying the restaurants in your neighborhood.

We're the category leader, and we just closed a $50M Series C, backed by Lead Edge, ICONIQ, and Greylock. Our agentic products handle the messy and manual workflows that the industry has run on for decades, rebuilding how distributors set prices, take orders, collect payments, and find new customers. We're growing quickly, with a large, untapped market in front of us, and a slew of new products on the way.

Why this role

Pepper powers ordering for hundreds of food distributors, which means the suppliers behind those products (produce growers, protein packers, CPG brands) have never had a direct way to influence what gets sold through them. Growth Agent is the platform we're building to change that. Think Instacart Ads or DoorDash Ads, but for the trillion-dollar foodservice channel where nothing like it has existed.

Our customers already range from regional brands to some of the largest protein and produce companies in the country, and we're just getting started.

You'd join as one of the early team members, reporting to the Director of Operations for Growth Agent. One month you might be running a QBR with a top-10 supplier; the next you might be scoping an ads product or rebuilding the table that powers campaign reporting. This is a generalist role for someone who wants to be close to the customer and close to the code, and who'd rather define how something works than inherit a playbook.

What you'll do

  • Own campaign performance: monitor ads and growth programs across suppliers, find leverage, and build automated alerting and optimization so we catch issues before customers do
  • Drive the product roadmap: scope, spec, and help ship new ads and insights products
  • Build: navigate our databases, code repos, and internal tools, using AI to move fast
  • Analyze: turn messy operational data into decision-ready analysis for suppliers, distributors, and leadership. AI cuts the friction, but you need a real foundation in SQL and relational data
  • Support the sales motion: build the proposals, models, and pre-call analysis that help us win supplier business

What we're looking for

  • You're an owner: you see a gap and close it without being asked, and you'd rather ship something imperfect today than a perfect thing next quarter
  • You're analytical: you can synthesize complex data into a clear recommendation
  • You're (somewhat) technical: you understand how code and databases work and are comfortable working in them with the help of LLMs, even if you're not an engineer
  • You're customer-facing: you can sit across from a supplier's VP of Sales and talk in their language
  • You're versatile: this is a lean, fast-moving team, so you'll wear multiple hats and be comfortable with ambiguity
  • You're experienced: 3–5+ years in business operations, consulting, analytics, or similar at a high-growth company

Location

Remote. New York City applicants interested in coming into the office 3 days a week are preferred.
